How to set up shipping policies

Both eBay and Etsy require every listing to point at a saved shipping policy / profile. ResaleOS pulls those policies straight from your marketplace account so you don't have to retype them β€” just pick which is the default per channel, and we apply it on every export.

1

eBay β€” pick your fulfillment, payment & return policies

On the eBay channel settings page, ResaleOS auto-loads every business policy already saved to your eBay seller account. Pick the marketplace (US, UK, AU…), then a default for each policy type. These get applied to every listing exported by ResaleOS.

Set an Oversized fallback for freight-sized items

eBay's calculated shipping has hard caps β€” big sofas, dressers, and bulky lamps blow past them. Set a separate Oversized fulfillment policy (typically local pickup only or freight LTL); when an item's declared dimensions / weight exceed limits, ResaleOS swaps in this policy automatically so the listing still publishes.

Etsy β€” pick your shipping & processing profiles

Same idea on the Etsy side: pick a default shipping profile, processing profile (the days-to-ship promise), and return policy. Etsy also supports calculated shipping β€” items that exceed its bounds use the oversized profile.

Where the policies live

Policies are stored on eBay and Etsy β€” ResaleOS doesn't create them, it picks from what you already have. To add a new policy, click Manage on eBay / Manage on etsy.comin the channel settings, create it there, then refresh ResaleOS β€” it'll pick the new policy up on the next sync.

Why it matters

What policies control

What buyers see at checkout

Calculated shipping = real-time rate based on the buyer's ZIP. Flat rate = fixed amount you set. Free shipping = the cost is baked into your price. Each policy holds a different strategy.

Carriers & speeds

The policy controls which carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx) and which services (Ground, Priority, Express) are offered. ResaleOS doesn't override these β€” it uses what you saved on the marketplace.

Oversized fallback

When an item's declared weight or dimensions exceed the calculated-shipping limits of your default policy, ResaleOS swaps to your oversized policy automatically. Listings publish; buyers see local pickup or freight quote.

Power-user tip

Override per listing

The defaults you pick here apply to every listing on that channel β€” but you can override on a per-product basis from the Channel Publishing modal on any product. Useful for one-off freight items, drop-ship vendors, or limited-edition pickup-only products.

Frequently asked

What if I sell internationally?

On eBay, pick the right marketplace (EBAY_US, EBAY_UK, etc.) and policies will be filtered to that market. Etsy supports international shipping in its profiles β€” set them up on etsy.com first, then they'll appear here.

Do policies sync both ways?

ResaleOS reads from eBay/Etsy. Editing a policy on the marketplace propagates back; ResaleOS doesn't push updates the other direction (we don't want to overwrite policies you might have multiple stores using).

What about return windows?

Return policy is independent of shipping. Pick a return policy once, and it applies to every listing. Some categories on eBay require longer return windows (e.g. clothing) β€” ResaleOS will warn at publish time if the policy isn't allowed.

What about Shopify storefronts?

Shopify storefronts have their own shipping settings (zones, rates, calculated rates). Configure those separately at Settings β†’ Sales channels β†’ Storefront β†’ Shipping & Pickup.

What happens at publish time?

ResaleOS picks the default policy by default. If item's dimensions exceed limits, it swaps to the oversized policy. If neither fits, the listing fails to publish with a clear error and we surface a Fix it action.

Calculated vs. flat β€” which?

Calculated is best for furniture & heavy items where ZIP matters. Flat is best for small, lightweight items where you can predict cost. Free shipping wins for cheap items where the cost is <15% of the price; bake it into the listing price.

Listings publishing too slow?

Misconfigured shipping policies are the #1 reason listings get rejected. Book a 15-minute setup call and we'll audit them with you.
