How to set up sales tax & nexus

US sales tax depends on the buyer's zip code and on where your business has tax nexus. ResaleOS ships with zip-level rates for every US state and lets you register the states where you actually collect — Pro plans get full auto-calculation by address at checkout.

Not tax advice

ResaleOS gives you the tools to collect tax accurately. Whether or not you have nexus in a state is a legal question — talk to your accountant before registering.

1

Open Settings → Taxes

The Taxes page has three sections: a default fallback rate, your registered nexus states, and (on Pro) auto-tax service settings.

Register a nexus state

Click "Add state", search for the state where you have nexus, and (optionally) add your registration ID. ResaleOS uses zip-level rate tables to calculate tax for every order shipped into that state.

Tip: ResaleOS warns you when your sales in an un-registered state cross the economic nexus threshold (e.g. $100K or 200 transactions per year) so you can register proactively.

3

(Pro) Turn on auto-tax service

Pro plans can enable our auto-tax service, which uses live address-based rates and rooftop-accurate jurisdictions. Below the registrations list you'll find a toggle to enable it per workspace.

Auto-tax by address

Pro

Calculate tax automatically at checkout using rooftop-accurate rates for every registered state.

Tax mechanics

How tax is calculated

Zip-level rates

We ship with quarterly-updated rate tables for every US zip code, including state, county, city, and special district components.

Tax-inclusive prices

Toggle Tax inclusive on the Taxes page to display tag prices that already include tax. We back out the tax portion at checkout.

Consignor splits

Choose whether the split is calculated on pre-tax or post-tax amounts — the consignor's share adjusts accordingly.

Economic nexus alerts

ResaleOS tracks revenue and transactions per state and flags any state where you're approaching the registration threshold.

Multi-state nexus headache?

If you sell into half a dozen states and your accountant just mumbled the word “nexus,” auto-tax on Pro is built for you. We'll walk through your specific footprint on a call.
