How to customize ResaleOS AI prompts
Out of the box, ResaleOS's AI writes solid generic listings. But your store has a voice, your buyers have specific search intents, and certain platforms reward certain title patterns. Custom prompts let you bake all of that into every listing you generate — title, description, the works.
Open Settings → Items → Item defaults
The AI prompt editor lives at the bottom of the Item defaults page in Settings. It applies workspace-wide — every team member, every photo studio session, every product creation.

Tell the AI what to focus on when it reads a product photo. These instructions shape the title and description it writes.
Edit the Title and Description instructions
Two text areas, plain English. Title instructions cap at 600 characters; description instructions cap at 1,500. The character counter turns amber as you approach the limit. If you ever want to start fresh, hit Restore default — your saved version stays put until you click Save.

Generate a listing — see your prompt at work
Open Products → New, drop in a photo, and click Generate with AI. Your custom instructions are merged into the same image-to-listing pipeline used everywhere AI runs (Photo Studio, batch intake, edit page). Same photo, different voice.

eBay-style SEO titles
Write an 80-character title in the format: [Brand] [Model] [Material] [Era] [Type] Lead with brand. No emojis. No marketing language. Repeat color/material once if it fits.
Etsy-style storytelling titles
Write a 140-character title that reads naturally.
Include the era, material, and occasion ("perfect
for...") plus 1-2 long-tail keywords. Use title case.Furniture description
Three short paragraphs. 1. A hook — what's special about this piece? 2. Bullet measurements (W × D × H, seat height). 3. Honest condition notes + care suggestion. End with: "Local pickup or white-glove available."
Apparel & accessories
Open with a one-line vibe ("90s minimalism, modern fit").
Then bullet:
• Size / measurements (chest, waist, length)
• Material composition
• Condition (any spots, fading, missing buttons)

Titles
Every Generate title click on the product create / edit page, plus bulk Photo Studio runs. Optimized per-channel by the export pipeline (eBay's 80-char limit, Etsy's 140).
Descriptions
Every Generate description click. Pure HTML output is preserved (paragraphs, bullets) so your structure carries through to every channel that supports it.
Photo studio batches
When you batch-process intakes through Photo Studio, your prompt applies to every item — turning a stack of unsorted photos into on-brand listings in one pass.
Tips that actually move the needle
- Be specific about format.“3 paragraphs, bullet measurements” beats “write a good description.”
- Mention what NOT to do.“Avoid emojis, exclamation points, and the words luxurious/stunning.”
- Pin a length. Pin the title at ~70-80 chars for eBay, ~140 for Etsy.
- Train on your bestsellers. Paste a great title from your own store and ask it to match that tone.

What model does ResaleOS use?
We use a multimodal vision-language model under the hood. We handle the prompting, fine-tuning, and the per-channel adjustments — you control the voice via the instructions box.
Does AI cost extra?
AI generation is included on every paid plan. There's no per-listing fee or API key to manage.
Does this affect blog AI?
No — blog AI lives in the admin tooling and uses a separate prompt path. The Item defaults prompts only shape product listings.
Can I revert?
Click Restore default next to either field to reset that draft, then Save to persist. Your custom version is preserved until you save the reset.
Are channel keywords automatic?
Yes. The export pipeline still optimizes per-channel (e.g. eBay's 80-char title limit, Etsy's shop-tag matching), so you don't need to write platform-specific instructions.
Will it follow my prompt exactly?
Mostly. Strict format rules (lengths, paragraph counts) hold up well. Subjective rules (“sound playful but not corny”) usually work but vary by photo. Iterate and save a few times.
