How to set up receipt printing
Two receipts ship out of the box: an email receiptsent automatically to the customer's email, and a printed receipt you can produce at POS. The printed one comes in two flavors — full PDF (8.5×11) and narrow thermal (80mm).
Open Settings → Sales → Receipt printing
The page is laid out top-to-bottom: Email receipt section (mostly informational — the email template lives in Notifications), then POS printed receipt with format select, default printer, auto-print toggle, and footer disclaimer.
Sent automatically after every sale. Edit the template at Settings → Notifications.
Pick a default print format
Full (PDF)= a normal 8.5×11 PDF, opens in your browser's print dialog. Works with every printer you have. Narrow = a small page sized for 80mm thermal receipt printers (Star TSP, Epson TM-m30, Bixolon SRP). Toggle whichever matches your POS hardware. You can always switch on a per-sale basis at the checkout moment.
Sent automatically after every sale. Edit the template at Settings → Notifications.
Compare both formats — they're both pre-rendered
The page shows a real-data preview of both formats so you can pick visually. The narrow receipt mirrors what your thermal printer will spit out; the full PDF is what'll arrive in a customer's inbox if they ask for a copy by email.
Save a default printer & enable auto-print
In the desktop app, save a default printer once. Toggle Auto-print after each sale and the moment a checkout completes, the receipt prints silently — no extra tap. Browsers can't silent-print, so auto-print only works in the desktop app.
Footer disclaimer prints on both formats
The footer disclaimer (e.g. ALL SALES ARE FINAL — PICKUPS WITHIN 48 HOURS) prints in small caps at the bottom of every printed receipt. Up to 240 characters; use line breaks for two short lines. Leave blank to hide.
Three places receipts come out
Email — automatic
Every sale with a customer email triggers an email receipt (PDF attached). Edit the subject, body, and logo at Settings → Notifications.
POS — printed
After checkout, staff tap Print. Your default format opens — either the narrow thermal HTML or the full PDF. Auto-print skips the tap.
Sale detail — re-print
Open any past sale → Receipts dropdown → pick a format and print or download. Same templates, useful for refunds, warranties, exchanges.
Frequently asked
Which thermal printers work?
Anything that exposes a generic ESC/POS or HTML print path — Star TSP, Epson TM, Bixolon SRP. The narrow template is sized for 80mm paper (the standard).
Can I customize the layout?
The narrow & full PDF templates are pre-styled to fit best-practice receipt design. Logo, store address, and footer disclaimer are configurable. Deeper changes are roadmap — let us know what you need.
Does auto-print work without internet?
The desktop app talks to the printer locally, so a brief internet hiccup doesn't stop printing. The sale itself queues and syncs once you're back online.
Email vs printed — which?
Most stores do both: email for the customer's records, printed for an in-bag receipt or refund proof. Auto-print + auto-email are both on by default.
What about gift receipts?
On the Print dropdown there's a Gift receipt format that hides prices but keeps SKUs. Customers can still return without seeing what was paid.
Can I print to a label printer?
Receipt printers and label printers are configured separately because they typically point at different hardware. Two different defaults, two different templates.
