How Depop shipping works in the US

Depop Shipping prepaid USPS labels are now the default for every new US listing; here is how sizes, costs, printing, fees and label problems work.

depop shipping — Depop Shipping Explained (US, 2026)
The short version

Depop Shipping gives US sellers a prepaid, tracked USPS label for every sale. You choose a parcel size when you list, the buyer pays the shipping price for that size at checkout, and after the sale Depop emails you a QR code to show at USPS plus a printable label. Since October 28, 2026, new US listings can no longer use “Other” (your own shipping); every new listing uses Depop Shipping. Ship within 10 days or the order is cancelled and refunded, and ship within 5 days on the Depop label to stay covered by Depop Protection (checked November 2026).

The short version

Older listings set to “Other” before October 28, 2026 keep that setting until they sell. If you delete and relist one, it switches to Depop Shipping. So if you are reading an older guide that walks you through setting your own shipping price, that path is closing for US sellers.

How Depop Shipping works, step by step

01 · When you list

Pick the parcel size honestly

In the listing form you choose a parcel size for the item, and that size sets the shipping price the buyer sees. Depop’s US shipping policy asks you to specify the size accurately, because it is what the label is bought for. Weigh the item in its packaging, not on its own: a mailer, tissue and a hang tag can push a light jacket into the next bracket.

Depop does not publish its US size-and-price table in its help center, and the prices change, so check the current price next to each size in the listing form rather than trusting a number from a blog post (including this one).

02 · When it sells

Get the label

You will get an email with a QR code you can show at any USPS drop-off, plus a downloadable label if you would rather print at home. You can also find both in the app:

  • iOS: My Depop → Sold → pick the item → Ship your item now
  • Android: Selling Hub → Sold items → pick the item → View shipping label
  • Web: profile picture → Your selling hub → Sold → pick the item; the label opens in the side drawer

No printer? Use the QR code. USPS prints the label at the counter.

03 · Packing

Pack it so USPS reads the right label

Reused boxes and mailers are fine, but fully remove or cover every old label, barcode and hazmat sticker with blank paper and tape. Depop’s own guide warns that USPS can delay or return the parcel, or charge a hazmat fee, if an old marking gets scanned. Pick a package that fits the item; oversized boxes cost you on the next bracket and waste material.

04 · Drop-off

Ship within the deadline

If you have not shipped within 10 days of the sale, Depop cancels the order and refunds the buyer. Most sellers ship within two days, and for protection purposes the number that matters is 5 days: Depop Protection only covers items sent on a Depop label within 5 days of the sale. Once USPS scans it, tracking updates on its own; there is nothing to mark as shipped.

05 · After delivery

Get paid

Depop pays out once the order is delivered. The label cost comes out of the sale along with the payment processing fee, so check the receipt (My Depop → Sold → the item → Get a receipt) to see the breakdown.

Use the label Depop generated for that order. If you choose Depop Shipping and then send the item another way, you lose Depop Protection and the order may be automatically cancelled and refunded, per Depop’s US shipping guide.

Who pays for shipping on Depop?

By default, the buyer. The shipping price for the parcel size you picked is added on top of the item price at checkout. The money is collected with the sale and the label cost is deducted from your proceeds, so it is a pass-through: you neither make nor lose money on shipping.

You can choose to pay part or all of it. US sellers listing in the iOS app can set a shipping discount on Depop Shipping items: $2, $3 or $4 off, or free shipping (Depop help center, checked November 2026). Whatever the buyer does not pay, you do, and it comes out of your payout. Free shipping is a real lever on Depop, where buyers compare totals, but price it in. A $25 item with free shipping is a $25 item minus the label.

Bundles have their own setting. Under My account → Bundles you can offer a percentage off multiple items or a shipping-based incentive. If every item in the bundle uses Depop Shipping, Depop issues one label sized for the combined weight; two items listed as small parcels, for example, get a medium label. If you chose free shipping on bundles, you cover that whole label.

What Depop takes from a sale in 2026

Shipping and fees interact, so it helps to see them together. As of November 2026, Depop’s help center lists, for US sellers:

  • No selling fee. Depop removed its 10% selling fee for US sellers in July 2024.
  • Payment processing: 3.3% + $0.45 per transaction, charged on the item price plus shipping and any tax, and once per bundle.
  • Boosting fee: 12% for Boosted Listings (on listings created from March 23, 2026), charged on the item price, and on shipping too if you did not use a Depop Shipping label.

Buyers separately pay a Marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price plus up to $1. It is shown at checkout and does not come out of your earnings.

Worked example: a $40 top (illustrative shipping and tax)

Buyer pays shipping
You offer free shipping
Item price$40.00$40.00
Shipping the buyer pays (illustrative $7 label)$7.00$0.00
Sales tax (illustrative)$3.00$3.00
Processing fee: 3.3% × (item + shipping + tax) + $0.45$2.10$1.87
Label cost deducted$7.00$7.00
You keep$37.90$31.13

The $7 label and $3 tax are placeholders to show the math; your real label price is the one shown next to your parcel size. The point is the gap: free shipping on a $40 item costs you roughly the whole label, which is about 17% of the price here. International shipping from the US

International selling is a per-listing toggle, off by default. In the listing, under Shipping, switch on Worldwide. Depop’s worldwide guide asks you to:

  • send every international order with a tracked service and add the tracking number to the receipt, which completes the sale;
  • estimate the shipping price at listing time from the item’s size and weight, since you do not yet know where it is going;
  • use your own phone number and email on customs forms that ask for one, rather than requesting the buyer’s;
  • tell the buyer if a parcel is held at customs or a depot, and open a claim with the carrier if it goes missing.

The buyer is generally responsible for import duties and taxes in their country. The exceptions are places where Depop collects VAT or GST at checkout (Australia and the EU, for example). There you add Depop’s tax number to the parcel so the buyer is not charged twice. Depop’s guides on US domestic labels and on worldwide shipping were updated separately, so after the October 28 change check how your listing form handles international orders before you promise a buyer a rate.

When the label is wrong

The item is heavier than the size you picked

Do not tape on extra postage or switch to your own label. Shipping off-platform voids Depop Protection and can cancel the order. Depop’s terms say you must reimburse Depop for any extra charge USPS imposes, for example when an item weighs more than the label’s maximum. Contact Depop Support from the order before you ship and ask how to correct the size. Then fix the parcel size on any similar listings so it does not happen again.

The buyer wants it sent to a different address

Ship only to the address on the Depop receipt. Protection does not apply if you send the item elsewhere, even at the buyer’s request. If the address really is wrong, sort it out through Depop Support rather than in messages.

The QR code will not scan at the counter

Use the printable label from the same email or from the Sold screen in the app or on the web. Both belong to the same order.

You sold several items to one buyer

If they bought them as one bundle checkout, Depop already issued one label sized for all of them, so pack them together. If they bought them as separate orders, each order has its own label and its own tracking. Ship each on its own label.

The parcel is lost or arrives damaged

If you shipped on the Depop label within 5 days to the receipt address, the sale is eligible for Depop Protection up to $300 including shipping and tax. Respond to Depop’s messages within the time they give you. Depop Protection is not insurance, so for higher-value items consider the price ceiling before you list.

Does eBay owning Depop change shipping?

Not yet. eBay agreed to buy Depop from Etsy for about $1.2 billion in February 2026 and completed the deal on July 30, 2026. Depop’s FAQ on the deal says there are no planned changes to fees, payments or policies for now. It also names shipping as one of the eBay capabilities it hopes to bring in over time. The October 28 switch to Depop Shipping for all new US listings is a Depop change; Depop’s help center does not link it to the acquisition. For what the acquisition could mean for sellers, see what eBay’s purchase of Depop means for your shop.

If you also sell the same item elsewhere

Most Depop sellers also list on Poshmark, Mercari, eBay or Vinted, and each one ships differently: different prepaid label rules, weight brackets and deadlines. The thing that goes wrong is not the label. It is a second buyer paying for an item that already sold on Depop. If you crosslist, delist everywhere the moment one platform sells. Depop crosslisting in ResaleOS does that automatically and keeps each platform’s parcel size with the item. Frequently asked questions

How much does Depop shipping cost?

It depends on the parcel size you choose when listing; the price for each size is shown in the listing form and is paid by the buyer at checkout unless you offer a discount. Depop does not publish its US size-and-price table in its help center, and the rates change, so check the listing form for the current price. US sellers on iOS can take $2, $3 or $4 off, or offer free shipping, and cover the difference themselves.

Can I still ship on my own on Depop?

Not on new US listings. Since October 28, 2026, the 'Other' shipping option is no longer available and every new listing uses Depop Shipping. Listings set to 'Other' before that date keep it until they sell; relisting one switches it to Depop Shipping. If you do ship an 'Other' order yourself, use a tracked service and add tracking within 10 days.

How do I print a Depop shipping label?

Open the email Depop sends after the sale and download the label, or go to the Sold section in the app or on the web, open the item and view the shipping label. You do not need a printer: show the QR code at a USPS drop-off and they print the label for you.

How long do I have to ship on Depop?

Ten days. If an order has not shipped within 10 days of the sale, Depop cancels it and refunds the buyer. To stay covered by Depop Protection, ship on the Depop label within 5 days.

What happens if my Depop package weighs more than the label?

Under Depop's terms you have to reimburse any additional charge USPS imposes when an item exceeds the label's maximum weight. Don't switch to your own label, which removes Depop Protection and can cancel the order; contact Depop Support from the order before shipping.

Does Depop take a fee on shipping?

US sellers pay no Depop selling fee, but the 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing fee is charged on the item price plus shipping and tax. If you use Boosted Listings and don't ship on a Depop label, the 12% boosting fee also applies to the shipping cost.
