About This Gemstone

Larimar is a rare blue variety of pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic, where it is prized for its tranquil ocean-like patterns and captivating shades of Caribbean blue.

The gemstone was rediscovered in 1974 by Miguel Méndez and Norman Rilling. Méndez created the name Larimar by combining "Lar," from the name of his daughter Larissa, with "mar," the Spanish word for sea—a fitting tribute to the gemstone's remarkable resemblance to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
