A graceful piece of antique English transferware, this large 18-inch serving platter was made by Ridgways of Staffordshire, England, circa 1890. Registered under Rd. No. 146826, it carries the “Eton” pattern — a delicate blue-on-white design of trailing floral sprays and leafy vines scattered across a well-shaped oval field, framed by a dotted beaded border and a scrolling foliate band at the rim. The form is elegant: a scalloped, cartouche-style edge with gently shaped corners gives the platter its generous, gracious presence.
