A rare and highly functional piece of 19th century American country kitchen history — this hand-crafted wall-mounted cutlery rack kept a farmhouse kitchen organized long before the age of kitchen drawers and modern storage. Beautifully made with obvious pride of craft, every surface features hand-cut decorative detailing that elevates it well beyond a simple utility piece.

The rack features three distinct storage zones: a slotted top shelf sized for knife blades inserted safely point-down with handles up, a wide middle shelf with narrow slots that hold spoon handles with bowls hanging gracefully below, and a lower horizontal rail for additional utensils or ladles. Centered between the side posts, a carved and pierced salt box or small utensil holder anchors the piece with a lovely folk-carved crest and hanging hole — this piece was designed to live proudly on the kitchen wall, not tucked away.

The hand-cut sawtooth apron running the full width is a hallmark of American country and Pennsylvania German folk craft, as is the chip-carved detailing on the lower rail. Rich warm walnut-toned wood has developed a gorgeous untouched patina over 150+ years of use. Structurally sound throughout.

Measures approximately 26” wide × 20” tall.

A genuine piece of American domestic life — functional, beautiful, and completely irreplaceable.245
