A delightful piece of mid-century Jersey Shore nostalgia, this oval serving tray was made in Japan as a souvenir of Atlantic City, N.J. — a common and collectible production style from the 1950s into the early 1960s. The matte olive green lacquered surface is decorated with a hand-painted orange hibiscus blossom outlined in gold glitter, with sweeping black and green foliage. “Atlantic City N.J.” is printed in crisp white lettering near the top. Two cut-out handles are wrapped in cream raffia, giving the piece a tropical resort character typical of the era. Dark brown molded rim.
Measures approximately 17” across. Light surface wear and minor scuffing to the lacquer consistent with age and use. Raffia handles intact and firm.
