A rare and striking piece of American fraternal history, this vintage Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) ceremonial mask was used in lodge degree rituals during the late 19th to early 20th century. Constructed of fine wire mesh screen with a boldly hand-painted face — wide expressive eyes, red lips, and a beauty mark — the mask was designed to create dramatic, theatrical effect during candlelit initiation ceremonies.

The mesh construction is characteristic of authentic Odd Fellows ritual regalia, allowing the wearer’s face to remain partially visible while the painted features commanded the room. A hauntingly beautiful example of American folk art with genuine esoteric provenance.
