The plate is identified as a "Fair Winds" plate by Alfred Meakin, produced in Staffordshire, England. The pattern, which depicts historical scenes of Chinese export to America, was initially created in the 1930s, drawing inspiration from Victorian copper engravings. The plate in the image is brown and white transferware, featuring the "Friendship of Salem" in a harbor scene dated 1830, and vignettes of Canton Port and New York Harbor, also from 1830. The text "E Pluribus Unum" is also visible on the plate.
Alfred Meakin's company history dates back to 1875. The "Fair Winds" pattern gained popularity in the 1970s. These plates, made of ironstone, are known for their durability and are often described as dishwasher and microwave-safe.
