Schreibers Collective is proud to offer this sophisticated Museum-Sourced Heritage reproduction of the iconic "Bear-shaped vessel" from the Early Cycladic II period (c. 2300–2200 B.C.). The original artifact, a masterpiece of the Keros-Syros Culture Style, is currently a centerpiece of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens (Inv. No. 6176).
Design & Artistry:
This hand-painted terracotta sculpture captures the strikingly Modernist Silhouette that famously inspired 20th-century masters like Picasso and Moore. The seated bear holds a shallow ritual bowl, featuring the functional pour-hole found in the ancient original used for libations.
The piece is finished with a hand-applied, dark manganese-style slip in traditional geometric cross-hatching. Its Mid-Century Grand Tour Aesthetic makes it a perfect crossover piece for collectors of Hellenic history or fans of minimalist, organic home decor.
Provenance & Markings:
The underside features a meticulous, hand-written gallery inscription providing full academic context:
"Vase in form of a Bear. Cycladic Civilization from Syros. 2300 B.C. Copy 6176 Inv. No. Nat. Arch. Museum Athens. Sclave 5 3 18"
Condition Report:
In excellent vintage condition. This piece maintains its structural integrity with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The terracotta surface exhibits a soft, aged patina with light, authentic "rubbing" to the hand-painted lines, providing a beautiful "excavated" character that fits perfectly with an unpolished, natural collection.
