Shabti figures, also known as ushabti or shawabti, were funerary figurines placed in tombs in ancient Egypt. They were intended to act as servants or substitutes for the deceased in the afterlife, performing any manual labor required. These figures were often inscribed with a spell from the Book of the Dead, which would magically animate them to carry out their duties.
Ancient Egyptian mummification was a complex process developed to preserve the body for the afterlife, believing the soul needed the physical body to survive. The process involved removing organs, drying the body with natron salt, and wrapping it in linen bandages, often with amulets and prayers placed within the layers. The elaborate rituals and materials used reflected the profound Egyptian beliefs about death and the journey to the next world.
