Up for your consideration is a stunning piece of American history from the legendary Mermod, Jaccard & Co. of St. Louis. Founded in 1864, Jaccard was the "Tiffany of the West," providing the finest luxury goods to the Gilded Age elite.
This isn't just a spoon; it’s a tiny work of art. Featuring an incredibly detailed Art Nouveau floral handle and a solid, scalloped shell bowl, it was originally designed as a Bonbon or Sugar Spoon. The interior of the bowl features its original Gold Wash (Vermeil)—a functional touch from the 1890s meant to protect the silver from the acidity of sweets and preserves.
The handle is elegantly engraved with a cursive "C", making it the ultimate personalized heirloom for a Clark, Campbell, Carter, or Cooper!
Collector’s Specs
Maker: Mermod, Jaccard & Co. (Look for the iconic Old English "J" hallmark on the back!)
Purity: Solid Sterling Silver (Stamped "925/1000" and "Sterling")
Weight: A dainty 15g (Approx. 0.5 oz)
Design: Deeply embossed scrolls and florals with a gorgeous shell-shaped bowl.
Condition: Fine Antique Condition. I have left the original dark patina in the recessed areas to make the floral details "pop," but it can be polished to a high shine if you prefer! The gold wash is beautifully preserved.
Why buy? With silver spot prices currently over $73/oz, this is not just a beautiful gift, but a solid investment in precious metal and American craftsmanship.
Shipping: I wrap all my silver items in acid-free tissue and ship in a sturdy box to ensure this delicate shell arrives safely at your door.
