This is an antique cut glass vanity or powder jar featuring a decorative repoussé silver lid. Similar items from the late 19th century typically served as containers for cosmetics, hairpins, or small desk items. Intricate silver lid, could use silver polish. The glass base displays patterns such as a starburst, diamond cut, and fan design. This is a very cool old piece. No chips or cracks in the glass, heavy glass for the jar it is, well constructed. About 150 years old!
