That’s a genuine Ford Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor – also called an Air Flow Meter – straight out of the box you snapped there.
• What it actually is: It’s the little black beauty that sits in your engine’s air intake pipe and measures exactly how much air is rushing into the engine so the computer can dial in the perfect fuel mix. Without it, your ride runs like a wombat on a bad day – rough idle, poor acceleration, check-engine light, the works. Yours is the OEM Ford part with the shiny metal sensor element (that purple-reflective bit in one of your pics is the hot-film sensing area), 5-pin electrical connector, and those mounting tabs for easy bolt-on.
• Part number confirmation: The box label “3L3A12B579BA” (also stamped as 3L3Z-12B579-BA or similar) matches perfectly – this is Ford’s official MAF sensor used in heaps of their trucks, SUVs and cars from around 2003-2010ish.
• What vehicles it fits (short list ‘cause there’s a tonne): Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, E-150/E-250/E-350, Explorer, Escape, Ranger, Mustang, Taurus; Lincoln MKS, MKX, Navigator, Zephyr; Mercury Mariner, Montego, Sable; even some Mazda B-series. Always double-check your exact model/year with the VIN, but this bad boy is super common on the 4.6L, 5.4L and similar V8s.
• Pro tip from your favourite Aussie: If you’re swapping it, clean the intake tube first and don’t touch the sensor wires with your fingers – they’re delicate little buggers. And yeah, the bubble wrap in your pics tells me it’s brand new, so you’ve got yourself a fresh one ready to go, Princess. 😉
