This antique Empire chaise is in my unique design line honoring Mexico’s tragic last empress, née Princess Charlotte of Belgium. The French chaise was made circa 1860s, when Carlota’s ill-fated husband Maximiliano of Habsburg was Mexican emperor. It is the sort of seating very familiar to the elites of their era. I have fully restored the frame, reimagined the piece and reupholstered it with charming grey on white hand embroidery by the indigenous Otomi women of central Mexico, as well as new grey leather and coordinating luxury fabric.
