These pieces launch my "Al-Andalus" line of redesigned furniture.I reupholstered these vintage Hacienda style chairs with fine Argentinian leather and with colorful fabric that I acquired during my years living in the Middle East, the patterns familiar as decor for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The styles and symbols of Arab Muslim decorative arts are seen everywhere in the Catholic Hispanic world because of the history of the times when Al-Andalus was an Arab kingdom in southern Spain. Despite theological differences, the Christian Spaniards who reconquered their country during the 15th century retained Islamic decorative arts designs, because the sublime beauty of the designs gives glory to God. In my home country of Mexico, for example, it is common to see Catholic churches decorated with geometrical designs that would be familiar to visitors to mosques in the Middle East, designs that originated as expressions of Muslim religious art and architecture. The armchair is 26” wide and the other chair 23” wide. See
