These stunning reimagined antique chairs from France are dedicated to Mexico's tragic last empress, Carlota, née Charlotte of Belgium. The chairs are probably from a decade or two after the reign of Maximiliano and Carlota, but are in a style familiar to them and their court. Walnut with gold highlights on details of the carved wood. I reupholstered them with Otomi hand embroidery from Mexico with new seat cushions and fabric. I obtain Otomi embroideries from the only authentic source, the women of the mountain rain forest town of Tenango de Doria in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. Each hand embroidered piece is a unique work of art.Two armchairs, two side chairs. The armchairs are 27" w, 20 d, 40 h, 20 seat height. Side chairs are 22 w, 19 d, 40 h. 20 seat heightProvenance: An estate in Huntleigh, Missouri, population 334. The St. Louis suburban enclave was founded by August Anheuser Busch Sr. and is now home to August Busch IV. These chairs had belonged to the Huntleigh owner’s parents at 43 Washington Terrace in St. Louis. The famous architect and furniture designer Harvey Ellis designed the still extant gate house of the stylish private street, Washington Terrace. See
