I have restored, reimagined and dedicated this chair to Mexico’s tragic last empress, Carlota, née Princess Charlotte of Belgium. This European mahogany bergere is of the era and fashion of the 1860s when her husband Maximiliano reigned. On the backrest my upholstery team have put elegant hand embroidery by the indigenous Otomi women of central Mexico. On the seat and armrests and back is new leather in the same rose color as the embroidery. Sturdy and completely restored, except for a chipped detail at the top of the mahogany back as shown in the pictures. See
