Astonishing carved detail and character of age on this Anglo-Egyptian or Anglo-Indian tabouret side table. Maker's mark is not available, but this is very much of the era and style and excellence of craftsmanship of Liberty during the end of the Victorian age and the reign of her son Edward. Liberty did a brisk business in Anglo-Egyptian furniture. As shown in a photo, a part of the masharabiyah panel is missing from one of the octagon's sides. This piece is remarkable in many ways, not least the figural sculptures at each point of the octagon. This indicates that the artistry is not strictly Islamic. It is carved and constructed from a heavy, hard, dark wood, probably teak. It it has not been repaired but it is sturdy and gorgeous and its integrity lies in its not having unneeded restoration work. See
