Peter Max (b. 1937) is a German-born American artist internationally recognized as one of the most iconic figures of American Pop Art. Rising to prominence in the 1960s, Max became synonymous with the psychedelic visual language of the era. His work has been exhibited in hundreds of museum and gallery exhibitions worldwide and is included in major institutional and private collections. Max has received numerous honors, including commissions from six U.S. Presidents, and was the Official Artist of the 1994 Grammy Awards, the 2006 U.S. Winter Olympic Team, and multiple Super Bowls, World Cups, and the Statue of Liberty Centennial. His cultural impact was further recognized with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his contributions to American art and heritage.
