Katherine McCoy (b. 1945) is an American graphic designer and educator recognized for her influence on late 20th-century design theory and practice. She co-chaired the graduate design program at Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1971 to 1995, where she helped redefine graphic design education and contributed to the development of postmodern design discourse in the United States. McCoy is a recipient of the AIGA Medal, the organization’s highest honor, awarded for her contributions to the field of design and design education. Her work is included in major institutional collections, including the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. She has also received the Chrysler Award for Design Innovation and has been recognized for her leadership in advancing experimental typography and critical design thinking.
