Condition appears consistent with age, with visible plate tone and paper toning typical of works on paper from this era; no major tears or losses are visible. Georges Rouault (1871–1958) was a French painter, printmaker, and draftsman associated with early modernism and Expressionism. He studied under Gustave Moreau and later developed a distinctive style marked by heavy black outlines, simplified forms, and a somber palette. Rouault worked extensively in printmaking, particularly etching and aquatint, and his work was exhibited widely in Europe and the United States. His paintings and prints are held in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Centre Pompidou.
