Vintage Gump's Jadeite Hinged Bangle with Engraved 14K Gold – Hong Kong, Circa 1970–1980
A beautifully crafted vintage jadeite jade hinged bangle bracelet featuring softly variegated tones of green, white, and warm russet. The jade displays pleasing natural color variation and gentle translucency when held to the light, characteristics associated with genuine jadeite.
The bracelet is mounted in finely engraved 14K yellow gold caps and clasp with detailed bright-cut leaf motifs. The engraving continues gracefully across the hinge and clasp components, demonstrating careful finishing and quality workmanship. The tongue clasp closes securely with a precise fit and is complemented by a safety chain for added security.
The interior gold mounts are stamped 14K and HK, indicating manufacture in Hong Kong—an important center for jade jewelry production during the late 20th century. Jewelry of this type was commonly produced for export to American luxury retailers, including the well-known San Francisco firm Gump's, whose original presentation box accompanies this piece.
The jade segments show attractive natural variation, including soft green areas and warm russet “skin,” a natural iron staining sometimes prized in jade for emphasizing the stone’s organic origin. Hinged construction allows the bracelet to open easily for comfortable wear while maintaining the elegant appearance of a traditional jade bangle.
In many Asian traditions, jade has long been valued as a symbol of harmony, protection, and good fortune, and jade bangles remain one of the most iconic forms of jade jewelry.
