Circa 1885–1895 | 10.40 Grams | American Heirloom
An exceptional late Victorian locket crafted in solid 14K yellow gold and stamped W & H within a heart-shaped cartouche, attributed to a respected American maker of the late nineteenth century.
Gracefully proportioned and beautifully weighted at 10.40 grams, this is a substantial example — not a hollow or lightweight piece, but a true gold heirloom of presence and permanence.
The softly luminous satin finish enhances the finely executed repoussé floral motif and delicate beaded swag detailing across the front. Petite faceted black glass accents lend subtle contrast and romantic depth, consistent with Victorian sentimental jewelry traditions. (Three accent stones are absent, noted for accuracy.)
The interior opens to dual compartments fitted with protective covers and presently holding a preserved four-leaf clover — a poignant and entirely fitting emblem of luck and remembrance from the period.
This locket embodies the refined restraint of late Victorian American goldwork: elegant, personal, and enduring. #90
