This circa 1948-1950s, mid-century modern ring by E.W. Reynolds is crafted of 14 karat yellow gold and is set with one 4.10-4.00mm round brilliant diamond weighing .25 carats. The diamond is set in a classic illusion setting which was very common and popular during the mid-century modern era of the 1940s and 1950s. This setting was used to make smaller diamonds appear larger, giving them a more prominent setting that enhanced the ring's overall sparkle.

Another feature of this setting that appealed to women joining the war-time workforce or post-war, was its more secure design. The setting features a small diamond surrounded by a protective metal ring or frame, often bright-cut or faceted to resemble the stone itself. This design protected the widest part of the diamond from potential impacts and lowered the profile, reducing the chance of the ring snagging on objects.
