These freshwater pearls from Lake Biwa, Japan, are set with two groups of six pearls and five groups of three pearls. The pearls measure approximately 17mm in length and 9mm in width and are strung on a wire. Each group is separated by decorative oblong sterling silver beads, embossed with a botanical design and oxidized to contrast with the pearls' luster and iridescence. The sterling silver beads measure 18.75mm x 6.75mm x 2.65mm(d).

Between the pearls and the sterling silver beads are small ~3.50mm round faceted labradorite spacer beads that flash their labradorescence, a play of color. Labradorescence is an iridescent play-of-color effect seen in the gemstone labradorite. It is caused by light diffracting off tiny, parallel layers within the minerals, which reflect different colors of the spectrum, creating a metallic shimmer of blue, green, yellow, red, and orange. 

The necklace is finished with a hook-and-eye clasp, and a 3" extender chain that is set with a Biwa pearl, making the necklace length adjustable from 18" to 21". #A
