A unique hand sculpted clay candelabra with 9-stick capacity used as a modernist menorah in the brutalist style. Its earth-tone terra cotta stems inform the beholder that the anamorphic qualities at first reveal conjure the artists likely inspiration of a cluster of wild mushrooms if seen above the earth. At the same time we might allow the inspiration and its underlying intention to be an anemone like organism perhaps found in a coral reef if it were discovered growing on the ocean floor. The dark glossy fired parcel glazed candle stick rims are particularly intriguing. We likely will never know for sure but we are beguiled and obsessed by its mystery and the motivation of its creator.Although, this one-of-a-kind sculpture was possibly intended for use as a holiday decoration it is a piece that can and should be displayed year-round. It has raw character traits that continuously invite further inspection. Each re-examination is rewarded with new insight. No signature is discoverable.
