Late 19th century Eastlake style upholstered side chair in mahogany (possibly redwood). Spoon-carved detail carvings on the top rail are accented with a burl walnut panel. The geometric center is centered in a rounded crown that is topped with a carved knob like finial. The head rail of the chair also has flanking wings in the form of circular shapes with rounded wings with half moon cutouts that are located between 6:32 and 6:40 on the clocks dial. There are reed channels, additional carvings, and more geometric spoon carving at the base of the seat. The chair stands on two turned legs at the front and two rear slightly sloping legs that stretch behind providing support to the slight lean to the seat back. The craftsman style chair appears to have been re-upholstered in a beige fabric with floral clusters that repeat. A zigzag gimping serves as a finishing pipe to the upholstered sections of the chair both in the front and the back. We estimate that the upholstery is somewhat new because the textile is in such excellent condition that original upholstery would naturally be in a more used and commensurate antique condition. There is no makers mark which is nearly the standard for this kind of chair. However due to the similarity in style and visual identification of the carvings and cutouts we can say with confidence that this chair is in the exact style known as Eastlake created by Charles Eastlake.
