A matched pair of early 20th-century relief-molded glass vases produced by the Portieux Vallerysthal glassworks of France. Cast in the distinctive "Chrysanthème" (Chrysanthemum) pattern, each vessel features a deeply embossed floral motif centered within an elegant scrolled cartouche, a design hallmark of the Belle Époque era. The glass is finished in a heavy acid-etched frost, historically referred to as "Camphre" or camphor glass, which provides a soft, satin-like translucency that diffuses light across the molded details.
Technically, the vases exhibit the industrial craftsmanship typical of the Lorraine region during the Art Nouveau period, including hand-ground rims designed to remove the flashing from the press-molding process. While the top edges show the expected minor roughness and microscopic flea-bite chips consistent with ground glass of this age, the structural integrity of the heavy baluster forms remains intact. The pair represents a significant example of French technical glass production, where ornate Rococo-revival aesthetics were achieved through sophisticated mold engineering and post-production surface treatment.
