A late 19th to early 20th century cast iron sad iron, used prior to the introduction of electric irons for pressing garments. This example has a compact, wedge-shaped form typical of household irons from the period and carries the utilitarian character associated with early domestic tools.

Solid cast iron construction with a heavy, substantial feel. The surface shows consistent oxidation and wear from age and use, with a darkened patina throughout and areas of surface rust. The removable handle is not present, and the iron is being sold as a standalone base piece.
