This vintage Pickard China vase features the "Sweet Pea" floral motif, a hallmark of mid-century American domestic elegance. Produced during the company’s celebrated Antioch, Illinois era, the vessel represents the shift from a high-end decorating studio to a premier domestic manufacturer of fine porcelain. The flared rim and ivory-toned body reflect the romanticized botanical aesthetic popular in post-war American homes during the 1940s and 1950s. Crafted from fine ivory porcelain, the vase is finished with hand-applied 24K gold gilding on both the flared rim and the pedestal base.
Structurally, the piece stands ten inches tall with a gracefully fluted body that emphasizes the verticality of the floral transfer. There is a visible shell chip on the outer edge of the base rim, though the remainder of the porcelain body and the gold leafing remains in good vintage condition. Pickard remains a significant name for collectors of American-made ceramics, as the company famously produced service for U.S. Embassies and Air Force One. While this specific pattern was intended for the commercial market, it carries the same technical standards and clay body quality found in their high-level institutional commissions.
