Western Gateway to the National Capital, Noma Thompson 1949, and MoCo Ephemera

This collection features a one-of-a-kind historical book, written by Noma Thompson from 1949, titled "Western Gateway to the National Capital". The book covers the history of Montgomery County, Maryland from the mid 1700s and its role in this region of the nation's capitol. Inside is included a typewritten note from the author to a purchaser of the self-published book informing her of the details around the book's printing and delivery, and hand-signed by the author herself. Also included with those purchase is a pamphlet from the Montgomery County Historical Society from 1960 on the county's heritage, as well as a copy of Montgomery County's Organization of Government publication from 1950. These three vintage publications tell a compelling story of this historical importance and rich heritage of this integral part of the Washington D. C. community.
