Current Item Condition: This tractor is missing the plastic overhead safety ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) frame and canopy. It is also missing the exhaust pipe. Item shows wear and chip paint on the body. This tractor was originally manufactured between 1980 and 1982.

History: John Deere has a decades long partnership with the toy maker Ertl. The original John Deere 3140 was a utility tractor manufactured between 1980 and 1987. It was built in Deere’s factory in Mannheim, Germany, primarily targeting European and international markets. The tractor was a 5.9 L, 6-Cylinder diesel engine that delivered 97 horsepower. It was widely praised for its MFWD/4WD configuration and a wraparound cab.

Ertl began mass-producing officially licensed John Deere scale models in 1963. When the 3140 was launched in Europe, Ertl partnered with UK-based manufacturer and distributer. The mold was engineered in the early 1980’s, featuring both the enclosed cab and the black plastic roll bar canopy. They continued to manufacture into the mid 1990’s before retiring the mold.
