A masterwork of 1980s Spanish Brutalism from the Costa del Sol.
Standing at a commanding 12.4 inches (31.5 cm), this "Large Block" sculpture is a rare executive piece from David Marshall’s acclaimed Golf Series. Likely commissioned as a winner's trophy for prestigious tournaments in the Marbella region of Spain, this work is a seamless blend of high-level sport and avant-garde art.
Signature "Marriage of Metals"
• The Design: A monumental, hand-cast aluminum block features a dramatic central cutout where a brass golf club head is suspended, showcasing Marshall’s difficult "fusion" casting technique. The entire sculpture is anchored by a solid, heavy brass base.
• The Finish: The face of the aluminum is polished to a high-silver sheen, creating a stunning visual contrast with the raw, "cratered" casting pits along the industrial edges.
• The Artist's Hand: This piece features the prestigious cursive "D Marshall" signature cast into the lower-left face, a hallmark of his high-tier studio productions.
Collector’s Note: Unengraved & Pure
While many of these were awarded and engraved, this specific piece includes the recessed area for a plaque but remains blank/unengraved. This makes it highly desirable for collectors, as it stands as a pure art object rather than a used trophy, allowing its sculptural form to take center stage. Ideal for a gallery display for an executive suite, home office / library, living room or entry way.

David Marshall
David Marshall (b. 1942) is a Scottish-born sculptor and designer who has become one of the most recognizable figures in Spanish Brutalist metalwork. Though he was born in Edinburgh, his artistic identity is inextricably linked to the mountains of southern Spain, where he has lived and worked for over 50 years. Over the decades, Marshall expanded his reach globally, studying traditional carving and welding techniques in Thailand, Java, Bali, and Rajasthan. His work moved from pure sculpture into functional art, including mirrors, furniture, high-end trophies and a notable body of bespoke trophies and awards for private clients and clubs. His pieces remain staples of mid-century modern and contemporary design galleries in New York, London, Madrid, in the Rocky Mountains of Clark, Colorado, valued for their rugged elegance and the distinct "human hand" evident in every casting.
