A monumental exercise in geometric power and industrial luxury. This heavy "Large Block" ashtray is a premier example of David Marshall’s architectural period. Hand-cast in his Seville studio, it features a thick, monolithic aluminum body "fused" with a geometric brass inlay. Great ashtray for cigars. The Signature of Authenticity: • Integrated "dm" Mark: This piece features the stylized "dm" artist monogram cast directly into the side of the aluminum block. This permanent, visible signature is a hallmark of Marshall’s elite studio works and is highly prized by collectors. • The Design: A rigid, rectangular block defined by clean lines and substantial weight. The brass is seamlessly integrated into the aluminum, creating a striking "wrapped" effect. • Aesthetic: Perfect for a high-end executive desk, library, or Brutalist-themed interior. Specifications: Origin: David Marshall Studio, Spain (Circa 1980s). Dimensions: Approx. 6" L x 4" W x 1.5" H (15 cm x 10 cm x 4 cm). Weight: 4.1 lbs (1.84 kg), Exceptionally heavy; industrial-grade casting. Mark: Side-cast integrated "dm" monogram. David Marshall David Marshall (b. 1942) is a Scottish-born sculptor and designer who has become one of the most recognizable figures in Spanish Brutalist metalwork. Though he was born in Edinburgh, his artistic identity is inextricably linked to the mountains of southern Spain, where he has lived and worked for over 50 years. Over the decades, Marshall expanded his reach globally, studying traditional carving and welding techniques in Thailand, Java, Bali, and Rajasthan. His work moved from pure sculpture into functional art, including mirrors, furniture, high-end trophies and a notable body of bespoke trophies and awards for private clients and clubs. His pieces remain staples of mid-century modern and contemporary design galleries in New York, London, Madrid, in the Rocky Mountains of Clark, Colorado, valued for their rugged elegance and the distinct "human hand" evident in every casting. Condition: Good vintage condition, scratches and with authentic patina consistent with age and use. This item has the original leather and makers mark on the bottom. The brass and aluminum can be polished to a mirror shine at the buyer's discretion, or left as-is to preserve its historic character.
