Discovered in Lisbon, Portugal, these solid cast bronze sconces represent the pinnacle of late Neoclassical and early Art Nouveau foundry work. Originally designed as gas fixtures—evidenced by the rare and authentic star-motif gas bypass valves—they have been masterfully electrified for contemporary use without compromising their historical integrity. The Figural Bronze Casting Unlike common "spelter" imitations, these are solid cast bronze, exhibiting remarkable sculptural depth. Each sconce features a classically rendered female nymph with flowing drapery. Close-up inspection reveals the exquisite detail of the lost-wax casting, from the delicate rendering of the hands and hair to the anatomical realism of the figures. The bronze retains a rich, deep chocolate patina with natural golden highlights on the raised edges. Period-Correct Acid-Etched Shades The sconces are crowned with a matching pair of period-correct frosted gas lamp globes. Manufactured between 1850 and 1899, these antique shades feature delicate, acid-etched floral and vine motifs that provide a soft, romantic diffusion of light typical of the Belle Époque.
