Winged cherubs holding up the torch of truth and liberty herald in the Enlightenment. The flowered festoon and leaf and berry swags add celebration. Formality is given by the frame, paneled in faux bois mahogany and trimmed with gold leaf, along with a beveled mirror. The small moons encircled in the base suggest the defeat of ancient superstition. It is in good condition for its antique age.
