"On the Road to the Market" by Filippo Indoni (1842–1908). The artist Filippo Indoni, was a well-regarded genre painter from the second half of the 19th century and this piece was painted in 1875. The grand piece depicts two Neopolitan boys in era attire set in a pastoral landscape. The scene captures a moment of interaction and movement, with expressive gestures and detailed garments that suggest a narrative rooted in everyday life. Earth-toned hues and soft transitions create depth throughout the background, while the boys remain the focal point through careful use of contrast and composition. The artwork is housed in a gilded mirror frame with decorative detailing that is a work of art on its own. This wonderful art piece has lived a long and fabulous life in the historical restaurant, Alioto's in the San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf. In good condition, visible and minimal wear from usage. Made in Italy.
