Antique carved wood painted colonial male figure from Ivory Coast area. The colonial figures represent European settlers from the former French Colony. The bright pigments of the sculptures imitate the colorful outfits and postures of the settlers. It is debated if the figures were originally seen as satirical portrayals of colonial officials or just simple depictions of colonial style.
