Large and rare original Mossi doll. Stunning hand carved abstract Yariga Biiga female figure from Burkina Faso 1940’s. These traditional doll figures were used by children to prepare and care for a baby. This more unusual larger statues may have been passed on from mother to daughter and used in an altar. The head is a stylization of the gyonfo, a female forward long hairstyle sometimes thought to resemble an elephant trunk. Beautiful attractive highly stylized figure with beautiful rich patina, signs of age and use. Mounted on a removable iron display stand.
