Title: Antique McKee Glass "Sextec" Pattern 11.5" Pedestal Centerpiece Bowl – UV Reactive Manganese Glow
Description:
Up for sale is a spectacular, massive antique centerpiece bowl (compote) manufactured by the historic McKee Glass Company (Jeannette, PA) in their highly collectible "Sextec" pattern, first introduced circa 1910–1912.
Measuring an impressive 11.5 inches in diameter, this oversized statement piece boasts water-clear visual clarity and incredible sparkle under natural ambient lighting. The exterior is richly decorated with the signature features of the Sextec pattern: a dramatic, large six-pointed central geometric star, surrounded by distinctive intaglio-style rounded floral petals and smaller crisp starburst medallions along a sharp, scalloped sawtooth rim.
When exposed to a 365nm UV blacklight, the high-manganese formula used by McKee in the early 20th century produces a beautiful, vibrant neon-green fluorescence. Before WWI, manganese was added to the glass batch as a decolorizer to clear out natural iron impurities. Today, this hidden feature makes it a prime target for glow-glass collectors! Oversized presentation pedestal items from this era are tough to find intact, making this a spectacular addition to any EAPG collection or holiday tabletop display.
