Add a rare touch of mid-century Japanese design to your kitchen or display shelf with this unique lidded casserole dish. Manufactured in Japan by Maruhon Ware during the 1950s or 1960s, this round tureen features an eye-catching, deeply textured chevron and zigzag relief pattern carved around the outer body and lid. The entire piece is coated in a striking, moody gunmetal grey metallic luster glaze that transitions beautifully from deep charcoal to silver-toned highlights.
The highlight of the piece is the sculptural figural bird finial built into the lid, accented by an incised geometric border. The interior is finished in a clean, glossy white glaze, providing a striking contrast to the dark exterior. The unglazed bottom reveals the stamped Maruhon Ware "Circle K" factory mark alongside the style number 1754.
Measurements: Measures approximately 7.5 inches wide from handle to handle, with an inner bowl diameter of 6.25 inches. Stands about 4.5 inches tall to the top of the bird finial.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. The white glazed interior is remarkably clean and free of utensil marking, and the exterior metallic luster retains its beautiful, uniform sheen.
