Iconic mid-century American casual wear! This classic short-sleeve Ban-Lon polo shirt features a rich navy blue body with a bold red, white, and navy striped placket and collar trim. It has a ribbed collar, three-button front placket, banded short sleeves, and a ribbed hem—typical of the "sweater-knit" Ban-Lon style that was hugely popular from the late 1960s into the 1970s.
Key Features:
Authentic Ban-Lon label (100% nylon, made with Celanese nylon) – the famous "miracle fabric" known for being machine washable, quick-drying, wrinkle-resistant, and shape-retaining.
Retail tag from Grants Men's Wear (or similar department store branding).
Distinctive retro striped detailing on the placket and collar edges.
Three-button closure with original buttons.
Comfortable, slightly textured knit with that signature vintage Ban-Lon feel.
Measurements (taken flat, confirm fit for yourself):
Chest (pit to pit): 22 inches (44 inches around) — fits as a men's Large
Shoulder to shoulder: Approximately 18–19 inches (based on typical layout)
Length (shoulder to hem): Approximately 26–27 inches
Sleeve length: Standard short sleeve for the era
Condition: Good vintage condition with normal wear for its age. The fabric shows some light pilling and minor wear typical of 50+ year old nylon knits (visible in photos, especially near the placket). No major holes, stains, or tears. Still very wearable and a great piece for retro, mod, or "grandpa core" styling.
Perfect for fans of 1960s/1970s fashion, Mad Men vibes, Seinfeld-style Kramer looks, or anyone collecting vintage Ban-Lon knits. These shirts are getting harder to find in solid colors with nice contrast striping.
As per original tag — Machine wash, tumble dry medium. For best longevity, I recommend gentle cycle/cold wash and air drying.
Ships quickly from Pennsylvania. Feel free to message with any questions or requests for additional photos/measurements!
