A stunning example of American Mid-Century Modernism, chest of drawers was likely designed by Merton Gershun for American of Martinsville circa 1960. This piece perfectly encapsulates the "East meets West" aesthetic of the era, blending sleek Scandinavian-inspired lines with subtle Chinoiserie architectural details.
Crafted from premium American Black Walnut, the piece sits atop a recessed plinth base accented by the signature vertical brass inlays on the legs—a hallmark of Gershun’s high-end designs for the company. There are four drawers on the upper section with integrated black metallic pulls and three drawers on the lower section with brass bail pulls. Stamped "802-7" on the back.
Very good original vintage condition. The walnut grain is vibrant and the factory lacquer finish has been well-preserved, showing minor age-appropriate wear consistent with light use. Some light wear to the legs. The drawers slide smoothly, and the joinery is tight and stable.
